Front Row to the Farm Life

Even though we are not farmers, we live on a farm and are right in the middle of thousands of acres of crops. A few weeks ago was wheat harvest. All over town the beautiful golden fields of waving wheat were being combined. My two year old can recognize and tell you what a combine is. This is the field right across the street from our house. Right across the street. See there is our mail box in the bottome left corner.

These are all pictures I took from my front porch. The fields in Idaho are so beautiful because of the mountains in the background.
This isn't a very good picture because of the lighting, but I just wanted you to see how up close and personal we are with farm life.
Below is a picture of the local crop duster. We hear him flying by almost everyday on his way to someone's farm, and we almost always see him when we are driving to the next town. (My two year old can also tell you what a crop duster is.)
Today, We heard the crop duster really close. I looked out my bedroom window to see him lined up and coming straight toward my window. I thought he was going to fly right in, but at the last minute he hopped up and over the trees and my house. So we went out front and had our own private airshow as he flew back and forth all around our house. Literally feet from the ground, power lines and our house. In the above picture he is lined up coming straight at us from across the street.
Here he is flying just a few feet above my front yard. How cool is that. He is very accurate with his spraying, so we felt very safe, but I'm glad he didn't crash. Now you can see why we have a front row to the farm life... and we are getting quite the education. Even the 2 year old.
Stay tuned as in a few weeks the Great Potato Harvest Begins... The whole town shuts down for 2 weeks, even school is out for 2 weeks because every man, woman, child, and beast along with their trucks are out in the fields harvesting potatos. Think about that the next time you eat "Real Idaho Potatos." We have potatos on our side (pictured above) and back, so we again will have a front row seat to all the action.
